Grant Goodman is a director, playwright, actor, and educator whose work explores the enduring dialogue between classical texts and contemporary audiences. A member of the Directing Studio at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, Grant recently had the honor of joining directors from across the world - including professionals from Turkey, Albania, Malta, Scotland, Ireland, Oxford and the U.S. - in an international Directors’ fellowship at The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in London.

For more than three decades, Grant has worked professionally across the American theatre, directing Shakespeare, new plays, and devised works with a particular emphasis on language-driven storytelling and bold theatrical imagination. A founder and former Artistic Director of New York’s Compass Rose Theatre Company, Goodman has directed productions for professional companies and universities throughout the United States, including Indiana University, IU Auditorium, the Granfalloon Festival, the At First Sight Festival, Open Book, Minneapolis, Rolling Tide Collective, Marin Shakespeare Young Company, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey Young Company and The Touring Company in New York. His productions have ranged from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, and Much Ado About Nothing to acclaimed new works including Born With Teeth, Science! The Musical, and Cat’s Cradle.

As a fight director, he has also collaborated with many of the nation’s leading theatres, including Lincoln Center, Theatre for a New Audience, The Old Globe, Hartford Stage, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, and Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. Goodman is a member of the faculty at Indiana University, where he teaches acting, directing, and Shakespeare while continuing to develop new plays and theatrical adaptations rooted in history, literature, and the transformative power of live performance.
