Before teaching full-time, Grant Goodman spent three decades as a professional actor, director, playwright, fight choreographer, and coach, performing throughout the United States and abroad while collaborating with Tony and Oscar Award-winning artists. That extensive professional career now informs his work in higher education, where he emphasizes the intersection of rigorous textual analysis, practical performance, and professional preparation. Currently serving as Visiting Assistant Professor of Acting and Directing in the Department of Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance at Indiana University, Goodman teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in acting, directing, Shakespeare, acting for the camera, professional development, and independent study. His teaching philosophy integrates classical training with contemporary performance practices, encouraging students to engage deeply with language, dramatic literature, and the craft of storytelling while developing the practical skills necessary for sustained careers in the performing arts.

In addition to his classroom teaching, Goodman has developed and led workshops for universities, conservatories, and professional training programs across the country, including the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, the University of Tennessee, the University of Arkansas, Oklahoma City University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Case Western Reserve University, Grand Canyon University, and the Utah Shakespeare Festival, where he has also served as an acting instructor and Shakespeare competition coach. At Indiana University, he has coordinated distinguished guest artists from the fields of directing, casting, scholarship, and artistic leadership; cultivated interdisciplinary collaborations with the Lilly Library, Jacobs School of Music, the IU Arts and Humanities Council, and other university partners; served on numerous departmental committees and MFA thesis committees; advised student directors and independent projects; and provided text, voice, and Shakespeare coaching for a wide range of mainstage productions. Guided by a belief that theatre is both an artistic discipline and a vehicle for intellectual inquiry, Goodman seeks to cultivate curious, collaborative, and versatile artists by connecting literary scholarship, historical performance traditions, and professional practice with the demands of the contemporary theatre.
